In this guide I’m going to explain how themaging system works in Dofus, how you can get the best equipment possible, anddiscuss what you CANNOT do with maging.
Yes- this means your dreams of AP/MP Gelanowill likely end here.
    Contents:
1 – important things to know.
2 – runes and their success rates
    3 – how to mage
4 – what you should and should not do
5 – Tips for maging in general
    6 - closing notes.

    -----------------------[1]-----------------------
    Important things to know
First thing is first. If you ever, and I meanEVER pm a magus saying “plz mag be quick I pay kk” – I will rape you sideways. Witha staff. Wide side first.
First thing to do, is head to whichevercity you can access (bonta has the best chance however), and check theworkbook. This is at the back of the smithmagus workshop, top left corner.
Once you have found a magus online, sendthem a PM asking if they are available to mage you an item. I’ve included anexample PM below.
/w <BLAH> Hello there, any chanceyou could mage a <BALH> for me, and if so, how much would you ask for it?
Notice I’ve been polite in this message? Itsgenerally a good idea to do so, as it makes them more likely to help you. Remember,at the end of the day, YOU want something maging, not them. They don’t have tohelp you.
    -----
Second thing of note. Exotic mages. Unless youhave like, >50mk spare, don’t even think about going for one. There is a reasonthese things cost so much.
    -----
Third thing of note. Most of the time itsbest to ask the magus what they think or what they feel about trying for xxstat. sometimes they can tell you immediately that you cant do it, or that youcan do better than that. They have experience with these things, take theiradvice.
    -----
Final point. When your maging, put ALL therunes in you have, and tell the magus “I want xx str, xx agil, x damage….” It willoften give you a much better mage.

    Runes and their success rates.
Note that this is a general guide from my experience. The rune power I’m giving does not match that in game, but
     ~ 1power runes.
These are the like of Fo rune, Age runeetc. these give one of a primary stat, and will generally go up to a score ofapproximately 20.  These stick reallyeasily.
     ~ 2power runes.
These are the like of Pa Fo, Pa Ine. These give3 of a primary stat, and will generally go up to about 40-50 of any stat, sometimes as high as 60. These are the most common rune used, and they stickquite well.
     ~ 3power runes.
This my own class. This is the Sa, and PaSa of the world. These both go together as they have about the same rate ofsticking. Personally, if your not after less than 5 wisdom, seriously, use PaSa all the way. Sa runes are well known for failing. Wisdom is the 3rdhardest category of rune to mage.
    ~ 5 power runes.
These are the Vi, Pa Vi, %damage, and theDamage reduction runes. (both linear and %). These are the runes you want thebiggest supply of. Meaning any resources you get to make stuff to smash forthem, do it. Really, you will burn this rune type faster than any other rune.
    ~ 10 power rune.
These are ANY RA rune. A Ra will add 10 ofany primary stat, or 30 vit. These are the kind of rune where 5 will be enoughfor any mage. If your burning through more than 5 of these, you better be aftera damn high overmage.
     ~ 15power rune.
These are the So runes, Do runes, and Crirunes. In other words, heals, damage (linear) and crits. These runes are 15power on my scale, because you WILL loose like, 40 +vit (minimum) and 20+ of aprimary stat if these fail badly. The worst drop I’ve had (god damn solomonk’s)was 140vit, 59agil.  Failed one critrune. CF >.>

     ~ 50power rune.
There is only one set of runes left now. GaPme and Ga Pa. these are power 50 runes, because if you fail one of these, itsgoing to Hurt. Note: capital H.
AP/MP over maging is the most profitablemethod of maging. However, it WILL cost you a fortune to make one of them. 130mkfor a +1ap solomonk. But think how many runes that took to make.
     ~Misc.
You will notice I have not included thefrigost runes. Until they become more available, and useful in sets notreserved for 180+, I’ll refrain from adding them. I don’t get a lot of themanyway to be honest, so I’m still working out their mechanics.

    How to mage.
This is the easy part. When you ask someoneto mage <blah> for you, they will invite you to their workshop. Press accept.

First thing you do, is press the PAYMENTtab in the middle, and put the amount they ask for in the top box. TOP box. Notthe bottom.  If they say tip only, I generallyfollow the guide below.
    Item lvl – tip.
    1-50 – 5kk
    50-100 – 10kk
    100 –140 - 15kk
    140-160 - 20kk
    160-180  - 40kk
    180+ - 50kk

Yeah, this may seem a lot to you guys, buttrust me, for the amount of time they spend maging higher level equipment, it’sa reasonable tip. Some people I know tip 50kk at all item levels. Some people Icould name tip upwards of 1mk for a decent mage, on top of what they ask for fixed.
Generall idea however, if they ask for afixed price, and you get the results you want, give them a 5kk tip at the end. Ifyou REALLY like what they gave you, consider a 10kk tip. You might have to be alittle pushy for them to accept it, but if they refuse totally, accept it and don’ttip. Its nice occasionally to get a little extra, to know that you’ve done agood job you see. [see the notes at the end for reasons]

Next, you have to put the item you want tobe maged into the bag. Drag and drop it into the bottom left corner box. Don’t worry, you cant drop anything while maging. After the item is down, place ALL therelevant runes you have down there.  So fora royal gob amulet, you want Fo, Pa Fo, Ine and Pa Ine. Assuming you wantmaximum stats anyway.
At this point, pm the magus telling themwhat kind of stats you are after. Eg: 20+int, 50 str, OM str if possible. (OMmeans overmage,)
After that, press ready, and let the magusdo their thing Very Happy
Stats which you should expect to loose, unless you say something:
    %res, +res, PP, Reflects.
Stats which you want as high as you can:
    Vit, Wis, +Dmg (NOT %dmg)
After they finish, you can see yourfinished rune, and tis all good Very Happy
However, they might run out of runes. If thisis the case, it’s a good idea to ask if you should get some more, and go buysome. Always take spares.

What you should and should not do.
    Simple list.
    1.     DO ask the magus’s advice on items you haven’t maged before.
    2.     DO NOT try and over mage more than 20.
    3.     DO be polite.
    4.     DO NOT dodge payment on a magus. Ever.
    5.     DO carry spare runes, or cash to buy spares.
    6.     DO NOT put runes in one at a time.
    7.     DO say thank you.
    8.     DO NOT beg for maging. Its really annoying to us magus.
    9.     DO allow them to sign your item if they wish. You should be proud to have their name on your item. And more importantly, it means you know a magus who can work future stuff for you.

    Tips for maging in general:

    ·        Ap/mp is bad.
    ·        Order of things to fix on anitem:
    %res / +res / Crits / Damage / Heals /Wisdom / Vit / stats.
+damage is better than %damage, and regularstats (eg Cha) is better than %damage.
Chance builds, don’t forget your PP. agilbuilds, don’t forget your Crits, Intel builds, don’t forget the heals. Yeah, you may not use them, but WHEN you sell it (because you wont be using that ‘dalaset at lvl 200) someone else might.

    closing notes.

you might think my prices for tipping is a bit excessive at times.

well i'd like you to consider something. how much does it cost to buy agobbal amulet. lets say 50 kama. now how much is a single Fo rune. marketaverage at the moment is 60 kama.

well. make a gob amulet, you need gobball horns. these are an easy 300kama each.

to reach magus levels, you need 5027 crafts. (assuming you can make3slots from lvl 1, which you cant)

thats 1.5mk, just on gobball horns. without the other two mats you needto make a gob amulet.

now to calculate profit made from the amulets.
    1508100- 251350 = MINUS 1256750 kama. 1.2mk wasted. no profit made.

    now runes.

using a Fo rune, with NO FAILS, it takes 58169 runes to reach lvl 100. That’sanother 3490140, or 3.5mk in runes, which turn NO PROFIT. this is assuming nofails though. a magus gets no xp for a failed rune, so every fail increases therunes needed by 1, and thus the money by 60kama a fail.

total profit from levelling a magus profession, with no fails: NEGATIVEFIVE MILLION KAMA.

lookingat that, can you see why my tips are so high?

Last thing:enjoy maging items. Its half the fun in playing the game, when you make areally bad cape, and slave away with a magus to make it awesome again. It beatsthe hell out of spending xmk on buying a good one to begin with, that you don’treally care about, because you put no work into it.
FYI. Magingoften works out cheaper on high level items than buying them direct at stats.
